2025 is the year of the Yin Wood Snake in Chinese astrology. This sign brings a new energy called Chi on Earth and its influences are reflected in what we call Feng Shui. Feng Shui is a practice of management of the Chi, the universal energy, in our homes and businesses in order to thrive. It is important to know which Chi we can use for success and which one should be left undisturbed. What is therefore the Feng Shui of the Chinese year of the Snake? I invite you to now look at the good and bad sectors, lucky and unlucky directions based on classical Feng Shui formulas. Those sectors are determined by the annual Feng Shui afflictions, as well some Chinese oracles. I’m gonna walk you through it and explain which areas of your house and business should not be disturbed in the Snake year 2025 and which can be used or enhanced.
How to determine the good and bad Feng Shui sectors for the Wood Snake year?
The Snake is the sixth of the 12 animals cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Each sign is linked to specific years and specific locations and directions on the Chinese compass (called the Luo Pan or Lopan) we use in Feng Shui. This is how we can determine the challenging sectors of each year. Chinese metaphysics use a calendar that accounts for both lunar and solar time. In the lunar calendar, this Chinese New Year starts on the 29th of January 2025. For Feng Shui calculations however, it start on the 3rd of February 2025 as we take the solar term. If you want to know more about those dates, you can read my article When does the Chinese year of the Wood Snake 2025 start?
The Chi of every year means that different sectors and directions are better left undisturbed, while it very beneficial to spend times in other area. How are those good and bad sectors determined? By something called the annual afflictions, as well as by the position of the annual Flying Stars and the Qi Men Dun Jia annual oracle.
The annual afflictions are in details:
- The Tai Sui or Grand duke (Jupiter)
- The Sui Po or Year Breaker
- The San Sha or 3 Killings
- The Wu Wang or 5 yellow, an annual Flying Star.
To understand the principle, you have to see that Feng Shui and Chinese astrology connect space and time. They constantly interact together. For example, our living spaces are influenced by the time periods used in Feng Shui. The shapes of mountains and the placement of rivers and oceans for a given city also become auspicious or challenging depending of the time period we are in. 2025 is the second year of period 9, a 20 years cycle that will end in 2044. Besides those periods, each year brings a specific Chi and determine good and bad sectors and direction for the Feng Shui of that year.
Tai Sui, Sui Po, San Sha, 5 yellow: the annual afflictions of the Wood Snake year 2025.
How are those locations determined? Originally, by studying the orbit of Jupiter that takes 12 years = 12 different positions in the sky on a circular axis. Jupiter is considered a divinity in Chinese cosmology, called the Great Duke or Tai Sui. Where Jupiter “sits” in regard to the Earth axis for a given year is the location of the Chinese zodiac sign of the year and also the location of the energy of this year. Each sign of the year therefore occupies a precise location in space. What matters is the animal of the Chinese zodiac for this year and where it is located. On the Chinese compass, the Snake sign is located in Southeast. This sector receives the strongest Chi (energy) of 2025 and as such it shouldn’t be disturbed. This determines the first affliction of the year.
Tai Sui: the Grand Duke Jupiter location during the Wood Snake year 2025
The Snake sign is in Southeast on the Chinese compass; more precisely it is in Southeast 3 sector. Southeast 3 is therefore the sector and direction under the Tai Sui, or Grand duke Jupiter affliction. It basically means that it should be left undisturbed the whole year, as its energy is too strong. Some Feng Shui practitioners will only account for the specific sector that is Southeast 3. Realistically, most of you don’t know where it starts and finishes inside your home. You can however figure out which rooms occupy the whole Southeast sector from your floor plan. So I always prefer to consider that the whole sector should be left undisturbed…
For Feng Shui, the Tai Sui or Grand Duke Jupiter annual affliction is in the Southeast sector during the Snake year 2025. The first direction to not disturb in 2025, year of the Wood Snake, is Southeast.
Note that it is the same as last year as both the Dragon and the Snake occupy Southeast, respectively in Southeast 1 and 3. You can read what I wrote about the Feng Shui of Dragon year 2024.
Sui Po: the year breaker location during the Wood Snake year 2025
Then we move to the second location. This one occupies the sector that is directly opposite to the energy/location of the year’s sign. If the year’s Snake sign is in Southeast 3, then the opposite sector to no disturb is Northwest 3! Easy isn’t it? The Pig occupies this location and so it also explains why people born under this sign have to be cautious in 2025. You will soon read my 2025 horoscope for the Pig and the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. This opposite of Tai Sui the year’s energy location is known as the Sui Po or “Year breaker”. The Pig occupies Northwest 3 on the Chinese compass: by extension and to be on the safe side, the whole Northwest sector is best left undisturbed.
For Feng Shui, the Sui Po or year breaker annual affliction is in Northwest during the Snake year. The second sector to not disturb in 2025, year of the Wood Snake, is Northwest.
It is again the same as last year as the opposite of a Southeast’s located sign is always Northwest.
San Sha: the 3 Killings location during the Wood Snake year 2025
We now move to the next affliction known as the 3 Killings, or San Sha in Chinese. Don’t worry about the name: Chinese metaphysics like spectacular names, but it doesn’t means something as bad the “3 killings” would happen to you if you disturb it…Anyway after being killed once, what would be the point to being killed two more times? That’s just sadistic. This sector is determined by something a bit more technical, so follow me if you are not familiar with Chinese metaphysics.
In Chinese astrology, Feng Shui but also medicine, we work with the theory of the 5 Elements, also known as 5 phases: Wu Xing. It means that the universal Chi takes 5 different primary energies…Each of the 12 astrological signs that can rule a year is connected to one of those Elements through an “Elemental frame”. An Elemental frame is basically 3 connected signs, which form the full cycle of one of the Element. They are also known as three harmonies or cardinal combinations. There is a 3 harmony for Water, Wood, Fire and Metal; none for the Earth that is “special” (leave her alone, she’s special!). And so, 4 Elemental frames of 3 signs = 12 astrological signs of course…Last year Dragon sign belonged to the Water 3 harmony. This year Snake sign belongs to the Metal Elemental frame (even if it is an Fire sign). The Snake is actually the beginning of the Metal Element. Metal is born in the Snake sign, reaches its peak in the Rooster and is stored in the Ox. Therefore the Metal born in 2025 will reach its peak in 2029, year of the Earth Rooster and go to sleep in 2033, year of the Water Ox.
As those three signs all occupy a “sector” we can then draw the frame between the three sectors to form a triangle. The San Sha is basically the sector and direction directly opposite the peak of this triangle. The peak of this Metal frame is the Rooster sign that is located in West 2. Therefore the San Sha, which is the opposite sector, is in East 2. The animal affected in this sector is the Rabbit. We’re going to consider the whole East as San Sha sector.
In Feng Shui, the San Sha or three killing annual afflictions is in the East during the Snake year 2025.The third sector to not disturb in 2025, year of the Wood Snake, is Northwest.
Wu Wang: the 5 yellow flying star during the Wood Snake year 2025
And finally, we have the location of the Flying stars. If you are not familiar with the term, think of the Flying Stars as some form of “Chinese numerology” that determines good and back sector depending of where the numbers fly and fall each year. The numbers represent a specific Chi at work. While technically all 9 Flying stars have their own influence, we look at the 9 and the 5 first and foremost. The 5 yellow annual Flying Star, that is considered most negative, flies into the Northeast sector in 2025. This sector should stay especially quiet during the Snake year, as disturbing this star could bring sickness. If possible, avoid loud music, heat or structural work in the room that is the Northeast sector your home.
In Feng Shui, the 5 Yellow sickness star is in Northeast in 2025. The last sector to not disturb in 2025, year of the Wood Snake, is Northeast.
And so we have Southeast (Tai Sui), Northwest (Sui Po), East (San Sha) and Northeast (Wu Wang) as the four sectors really affected during the Yin Wood Snake year 2025.
How to not disturb the annual afflictions for the Snake year 2025?
What should we do to respect the annual afflictions? Well, mostly left them undisturbed: it is as simple as that…A challenging sector can affect you if you disturb it. This can be done in several ways:
- If you renovate your home or business in these areas
- if your main door is located on it and constantly used
- if you play loud music or bang a door in these sectors (depends on the day)
- If there is close construction work in your neighbourhood in these directions
Once disturbed, it can bring in extreme case (emphasis on the extreme!) accidents, illness, money loss or robbery. It is therefore wise to respect them if you can…If you disturb one of those sector by mistake, best is to leave your place for a couple of hours just after you did, or even better go away for a few days until the effect dissipate. Once activated, it is random luck to know if it going to hit you or not.
What is the remedy if you have offended the yearly Tai Sui, Sui Po, San Sha or 5 Yellow?
From the day you’ve offended the sector of a major affliction, I recommend a few actions to appease the problem. Best is to do at least 2 of those. First, recite mantra of protection daily and for at least one week, more is better. Second, make a donation to a good cause, such as a local no kill animal shelter. Third, make an offering and pray to a divinity you believe and ask for protection. Fourth, go give your blood or go for a blood sample (testing cholesterol or something else…) and while you give your blood, focus on the fact that you are drawing voluntarily the first blood and therefore the Universe doesn’t need to send you illness or accident anymore. Lastly you can do a vegetarian week as an offering too. In summary focus on good deeds, mantras and paying your homage to the divinities you believe in for protection to balance it out.
The main aspect is really, if possible, to not renovate in those areas during the Snake year, between the 3rd of February 2025 to the 3rd of February 2026. You can read When does the Chinese year of the Wood Snake 2025 start? to know more about the logic of those dates and the Chinese calendar. If you absolutely need to do renovations, contact me and I can calculate a good days and month to star the work and to avoid triggering problem with your Feng Shui and astrology. Best is to leave the house until the renovations are done still.
Remedy for the 5 Yellow Star during the Snake year. What if your main door is in Northeast? Northeast this year receives the 5 yellow Flying Star that can bring illness. As it is a Star connected to the Earth Element, a traditional remedy is to hang a 6 rods metallic wind chime at the door to dissipate this energy. That being said, you already have a remedy if your main door is:
- made of metal
- is all while
- has metallic shutters you can close on the door
However be very mindful to not shut the door during the year, and do not add Earth Chi in this area such as soil, stones, plant pots made of terracotta etc.
If a building is in construction or renovated next to your home in Southeast, Northwest or the East direction, it is not ideal either and can trigger some challenges: such as money loss or more rarely accidents. A counter measure is to increase your luck via a Feng Shui consultation and through monthly Feng Shui activations. My membership, in which I give you 5 Feng Shui activations each month, will help you get a better luck at home and in your whole life.
Finally, avoid making a lot of noise in those sectors: loud music, slamming doors, banging on the walls with a hammer etc. Try to respect those energies, but don’t stop living either…
What if you sleep or work in those sectors? It is fine if you don’t disturb the sector and if you are there under the right energy based on your Bazi astrology and Kua. This is something we will determine in a Feng Shui consultation. As for not facing them, in all honesty, it is not such a big deal and at some point you will face them in your home anyway. If you can, make sure your desk or bed is not directly facing the annual afflictions, but don’t obsess about it if you can’t.
Good Feng Shui: the lucky sectors & directions for 2025, year of the Yin Wood Snake.
Now, what about the auspicious sectors for the Snake year? Well yes there are some! There is a Yin to every Yang, and vice-versa. Time to see how the other directions and sectors, or Feng Shui palaces fare in 2025. To determine the auspicious directions and sectors, we look at the combination of some of the annual Flying Stars and the Qi Men Dun Jia plate/chart for this year. Don’t be impressed by the name here. The Qi Men Dun Jia is another form of Chinese metaphysics. It used to be a war oracle but can now be used to predict where the good Qi is for a specific place and time. It is therefore useful to combine it with the other predictive oracle that is the Flying Stars. This is the method that I use to determine the 5 lucky Feng Shui activations given in my membership.
The flying stars during the Snake year 2025
We are now in period 9 since last year. The Star 9 therefore becomes auspicious star of the period and activating it can stimulate wealth and luck.
- During the Snake year, the 9 Flying Star flies in the East. East is however also under the San Sha affliction and therefore its activation needs to be carefully done. Still the 9 flying star here helps to mitigate the 3 killing influence.
- The Flying Star 8 flies in the Southwest sector in 2025. This Star is also linked to wealth and remains beneficial at the beginning of period 9, but is Chi is now declining. In 2025 we can still activate the Flying Star 8.
- In opposition, the Star 2 that was really negative in the previous period is now becoming auspicious. The Flying Star 2 is not one we can activate this year however as it is in the centre and the centre is always best left quiet and still.
- The Star 1 is now auspicious and is flying in Southeast. Problem Southeast is also the location of the yearly San Sha and therefore it cannot be activated all the time.
- The Star 6 remain good for the period but should not be activated all the time. It is flying in South sector.
Here is chart the Flying Stars for the Wood Snake year 2025. Remember that in the Bagua or Pakua, South is on top and North at the bottom:
- In green the best Stars.
- In blue the one to activate carefully, either neutral or in transition.
- In red the stars that must be left undisturbed.
Qi Men Dun Jia for 2025, year of the Yin Wood Snake
For the Qimen oracle, at least we are no more in a trap (Fu Yin) structure like last year. The Chi now flows better. The only palace however that has a good structure on all aspect is…East again. The East direction is really an interesting mix this year with one yearly afflictions but also the most positive flying star of the period and an auspicious Qi Men structure. It can be activated on specific days and time. Other directions having partial good structures are: Southeast, Northeast and West. They are basically missing a good door to be entirely beneficial, but their flow of Chi is better than the other sectors. Southeast however is affected by the yearly Tai Sui.
The Qi Men year plate is one thing; like the flying Stars, there are different Qi Men energies each month and each day, with some excellent directions and sectors to active each month. Those activations bring more luck in life and boost work, finance and relationships. If you are part of my membership, the Qi Men analysis is the method that I use to determine your 5 lucky feng shui boosts of each month to boost your luck all year long. It also takes into account the Flying Stars. If you are not yet part of this lucky club, you can join in here right now.
Here is the Qi Men plate for the year.
All the good and bad directions and sectors for the Wood Snake year 2025.
When looking at the annual afflictions, the sectors that are not affected are: South, Southwest, West and North. For the Qi Men Dun Jia, East is a winner, but Northeast, Southeast and West have partially good structures. For the Flying Stars, the best ones are in East and Southeast, while South and Southwest also have good Stars. The worst Star, the yellow 5 is in Northeast. The centre is receiving the 2 Flying Star which used to be bad and linked to illness, but is now becoming more auspicious. However in Qi Men there is a double Fire structure in the centre, which might feeds the illness aspects associated with the 2 Star. Best it to not activate it.
When combining all aspects: annual Feng Shui afflictions, the flying stars and the Qi Men Dun Jia for the year of the Snake, we end up with this ranking from best to worse.
This best sector for the year :
- Southwest
Average plus sector for the year :
- South
Average sectors of the year:
- West
- North
- Centre
Those directions/sectors are all badly afflicted
- Southeast
- Northwest
- Northeast
Mitigated sector of the year:
- East
East receives the San Sha affliction BUT it also get the 9 Flying Star and the best Qi Men structure of the year.
Southwest is again the winner this year having no afflictions and receiving the 8 flying star.
Below is a visual representation of all the sectors for this year :
- In red: sensitive, do not disturb
- Purple: sensitive but mitigated by other influences
- In blue: average
- In green: auspicious sector
Buying properties with the right Feng Shui during the Wood Snake year 2025
Traditionally, it is best to avoid buying a property with the main door located on one of the annual affliction for that year. For example, in 2025 you’d avoid buying a house with its door in Southeast where the Tai Sui of the year is; as well as in Northwest (Sui Po), East (San Sha) and Northeast (Wu Wang). We need to explore this rule a bit further.
- If you don’t move in in this house during that year, that’s not a problem
- If you renovate it, you still need to respect the annual afflictions guidelines
- If you move in during that year, the solution is to then select a good move-in date for you and the other people concerned
This is done by studying your Bazi and the monthly energies, and line up your Heaven (astrology/timing), Human (your move in date) and Earth (your new place) luck. There is always a way…I can of course assist you entirely into choosing the right place and find the best moving in date. This conclude our complete Feng Shui guide to 2025, year of the Yin Wood Snake.
